Issuer-awarded credential — awarded by the issuer named on it, not by FHG.
Every CompTIA credential in the Continuing Education program expires three years from the day you passed — not the calendar year, not the year you started studying. Renewing means earning continuing education units, documenting them, and submitting them before that date.
Most people find out about the renewal cycle in year two, from a reminder email. By then the question is not whether you have done enough — it is whether you can prove what you did eighteen months ago, and whether any of it counted.
A continuing education unit is roughly one hour of qualifying activity. Training counts when at least half the course content maps to the exam objectives of the certification being renewed. That is a reasonable rule and an impossible one to apply retroactively to a year of scattered webinars, vendor courses and half-finished playlists.
Training platforms sell you hours. None of them tell you which hours counted, how many you have against what you need, or what the submission is supposed to look like.
It is not one number. Each credential carries its own target, and each runs on its own clock.
| Certification | CEUs per cycle | Cycle |
|---|---|---|
| CompTIA A+ | 20 | 3 years |
| CompTIA Network+ | 30 | 3 years |
| CompTIA Security+ | 50 | 3 years |
| CompTIA Linux+ | 50 | 3 years |
| CompTIA Cloud+ | 50 | 3 years |
| CompTIA CySA+ | 60 | 3 years |
| CompTIA PenTest+ | 60 | 3 years |
Hold three of these and you are running three separate counters against three separate deadlines, each dated from a different exam day. CompTIA also charges a renewal fee, once per three-year cycle rather than every year. Confirm current requirements and fees with CompTIA directly — they set them and they change them.
It does not submit on your behalf, and it does not decide what qualifies. CompTIA approves activities and CompTIA renews certifications. CompTIA allows 30 days after an expiry date to pay outstanding fees or submit CEUs earned within the cycle; nothing earned after the date counts, and no platform can change that.
What it removes is the reconstruction — the part where you sit down in month thirty-two and try to remember what you did in month eight.
